The Government Chief Whip has removed the requirement to remain publicly neutral as the leadership contest enters the last stages.
I have met and spoken with both candidates; they have strong campaigns and plans for the country and our economy. However, I feel that Liz Truss has the best vision for coastal and rural constituencies like North Cornwall and I have voted for her consistently throughout the different stages of the contest. She has given me assurances that she understands the nature of the housing challenges in Cornwall and other key issues such as dentistry and the NHS.
I have worked with Liz in the Treasury and seen first-hand how she deals with complex situations, and I believe her vision for the country and domestic policy platform is best placed to take us forward. Like me, Liz is also a firm believer in the levelling up agenda and will ensure that this continues in future.
International policy is also very important, and with the UK at the centre of global issues such as the response to the war in Ukraine, we need a leader who understands diplomacy and can stand on the world stage. Liz has already proven this through her role as Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary.
She will make an excellent Prime Minister.
