The people of Bude and surrounding areas were given the chance to attend a “Meet the MP” event. On Friday, October 28, Conservative MP for North Cornwall Scott Mann attended a question and answer session at Kilkhampton’s Little Pig Farm Shop & Cafe.
Prior to the event, Scott had been re-appointed to the Whip’s Office and local county councillors including Cllr Shorne Tilbey (Cornwall councillor for Stratton, Kilkhampton & Morwenstow), Cllr John Conway (Launceston South) and Cllr Barry Jordan (Camelford & Boscastle), as well as some 40 attendees, listened as Scott went into detail about his new position and his duties in his previous post at DEFRA.
After this welcome, Chairman Richard Smith of Bude Branch of North Cornwall Conservative Association opened the question and answer session, welcoming questions on a variety of subjects from the impact of second homes in our community, the shortage of local housing for local families, bus services between Bude and Exeter, sewage in the sea and Scott’s position on fracking. It was evident that there were concerns expressed on both energy and food security, for which re-assurance was given that these are very high on the new Government’s agenda.
“It was great to be invited to meet with local business owners, farmers and many residents from Kilkhampton and the surrounding area and for us to have a positive and productive discussion covering a variety of local and national issues affecting North Cornwall,” said Scott. “I was also very pleased to have three local councillors in attendance who were able to offer their valuable assistance with matters concerning Cornwall Council”
