My name is Scott Mann I am a postman and Cornwall Councillor in Wadebridge and in January I was selected to be the Prospective Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for the 2015 general election. I'm 36 years old, I'm married and have a nine year old daughter. I live in affordable housing in Wadebridge. I am proud to have been born in Cornwall and delighted to have been selected to run for parliament in the area I was born and raised. I am not a career politician, I have worked two jobs since the age of 17 and I understand how difficult it can be trying to raise a family and pay a mortgage in Cornwall.
My main objectives for the future are:
· Cutting taxes for working people - We all pay too much tax and we don't get enough back for what we pay. We must put money back into people’s pockets and not let the bureaucrats waste it.
· We must stop using North Cornwall as a dumping ground for wind farms and solar parks - Our landscape that we value so much is being destroyed by massive industrial developments.
· Genuine affordable housing - The working population in Cornwall need to be looked after in terms of housing. We seem to build houses for people that are seen as being in the most need but councils and governments forget about providing housing for the hard working Cornish population.
· North Cornwall hasn't been looked after economically for over 20 years. Our economy is still mostly about farming and tourism. Our fishing industry has been left to go to the wall with no help. We must broaden our approach to new industries. I am currently working on several projects that I will push up the agenda over coming months and years.
· We must do the basics right. Cleaning beaches, clearing footpaths, keeping public toilets open, keeping business rates and council tax low, cutting bureaucrats not the services people rely on.
· I want to see the fishing industry return to what it was off the North Cornwall Coast. We have a very large consumer food market and several celebrity chefs in our area. I want to promote our catches in Cornwall, support our fisherman and encourage more of our fish/lobster and crab to be eaten here rather than shipped abroad. I have also set up a petition to stop gill netting in estuaries and promote recreational fishing to add another string to our tourism bow.
I will be getting around the constituency a lot over the next 18 months, I hope to speak with you all soon.
I believe that North Cornwall needs one of their own to go to Westminster and fight their corner for them. I believe I am the right person to do that for you.
