Devon and Cornwall Conservatives have selected their three candidates who will contest the selection of the Conservative candidate for the Police and Crime Commissioner elections in November, at three Primaries across the area.
The three candidates are Paul Biddle, Alison Hernandez and Tony Hogg.
The meeting in Okehampton on Saturday, where the decision was made, was attended by over 50 members from across the 2 counties with representation from all eighteen constituencies. MPs, Oliver Colvile (Plymouth Sutton and Devonport), George Eustice (Camborne and Redruth) and Hugo Swire (East Devon) also attended.
The final decision as to who will be the Conservative candidate will be made by the electors from across the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary area who register and attend the Primaries. The first Primary will be held at Westpoint Arena (Devon County Showground), near Exeter on the evening of Thursday 5th July. The second is at Kingsley Village, mid Cornwall, just off the A30 at Fraddon, on the evening of Friday 6th July. The final Primary, where the result will be announced is being held on the morning of Saturday 7th July at the Future Hotel, Plymouth International Business Park, off Tavistock Road, Plymouth.
“We very much hope electors from across the area will take part in this unique process” said Richard Peek, Chairman of the organising committee, “only Conservatives involve the public in choosing their candidates, and as this proved so successful in selecting candidates such as Sarah Woolaston in Totnes and Sarah Newton in Truro and Falmouth, who have proved themselves as excellent constituency MPs, we decided that this was the best method to select our first Police and Crime Commissioner candidate.”
“Electors must register to attend,” he added “they can do this by telephone on 013952 33503 or via the website www.policeselection.co.uk where they will also find full details of the three candidates and the Primaries.”
